You and Me

Sep 14
1 min read

You were the one who came too close,

love doomed

So close, it seemed it still might be.

And yet, it could never be…

A vast chasm lay between us,

Filled with despair and hopelessness.

Still, we fell.

Crazy, like fools,

Knowing what we dared not say

It could never be.

There was warmth in those arms,

A refuge in the darkness,

Two bodies holding tightly through the night

As though letting go

Would make the inevitable arrive.

Longing arms, tender kisses,

Tight embraces, searching eyes.

Words whispered about never letting go,

And a quiet plea to stay.

Something heavy settled between two hearts.

Dark clouds gathered at the edges,

Looming once again.

Again…

Oh, yet again.

And then came silence,

The ending silence and yearning.

Dark eyes, dark hair,

A memory that sometimes returns

Uninvited,

Like a shadow from another life.

Yet some doors dare not be reopened.

Some loves are born to die.

It was so hopeless from the beginning

You and me

Never could be
